We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when adults are afraid of the light. – Plato

How can we make philosophy more vital?

We all love ideas. Many of the richest, most "successful," old people I know wish they were Philosophers. Philosophy impacted their lives tremendously. Why are we diddling with other work when we should just be working on theoretical frameworks that push toward a utility that makes this world "better," in the way we want to be better?

Philosophy today has diddled way too long in abstract principles that get no one anywhere. @Emilie Dannenberg said something about only reading Eastern Philosophy because Western philosophy is just a cult of logic. That's false. It's dangerous to romanticize so called "Eastern Philosophy." Is China building its great empire on Confucian Great Truths alone? No. China is building an amazingly complex set of governing principles that, if they iterate away from fuckups like Tiananmen Square, will rule the world. The best logic wins at the end of the day.

It is our duty as smart and creative people to challenge any logic in order to push toward better theory. Better Theory = Better Social Systems = A Better World. We must get working!
